What makes writing hard to read?
Most unclear business writing shares the same handful of problems. Fixing them is usually faster than writing more.
Long sentences
Sentences over 25 words force the reader to hold too much in mind at once.
Jargon and abstraction
Buzzwords hide the point. Plain, concrete words are faster to read and trust.
Buried main point
Leading with setup instead of the takeaway makes readers work to find the value.
Readable for the people you need to reach
Clear structure and concrete language help readers find the point and decide what to do next. Readability is one part of useful content, alongside accuracy, originality, evidence, intent, and subject-matter depth.
Faster comprehension
Clear copy reduces the effort required to find and understand the main point.
Better content review
Sentence and vocabulary patterns give editors a practical place to start.
Audience fit
A technical audience and a broad consumer audience often need different levels of complexity.

Readability Checker FAQ
How is the readability score calculated?
The score uses the Flesch Reading Ease formula, based on your average sentence length and syllables per word. A higher score means the text is easier to read. The tool also reports the Flesch-Kincaid grade level.
What is a good readability score?
For general web content, aim for a score of 60 or higher, which is roughly an 8th to 9th grade reading level. A technical or specialist audience can handle a lower score, so match the level to your reader.
Does a readability score predict SEO performance?
No. A readability estimate can support clearer, more useful writing, but it does not guarantee rankings, engagement, conversions, featured results, or AI citations. Search performance also depends on relevance, originality, evidence, authority, technical accessibility, and many other factors.
Do I need to enter an email?
No. The basic readability score, grade-level estimate, and optional detailed AI editing review all appear on the page without an email. A work email is requested only when you choose NisonCo marketing updates.
Do you store the text I paste in?
The basic score runs without an email. If you request detailed AI edits, we store the submitted text and result to operate and improve the tool. We use hashed identifiers to enforce free-use limits, and collect a work email only when you opt in to NisonCo updates. Avoid submitting confidential customer, medical, or unreleased financial information.
Can NisonCo help improve our content?
Yes. NisonCo builds content and SEO programs designed for search visibility, clear audience fit, and usefulness in AI-assisted discovery, and can set up the tools and workflows to do it at scale.
